Swedish Medical Center Central Services Technician- Sterile Processing in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Central Services Technician (1.0 FTE, Evening) for Sterile Processing at Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Central Services Technician is responsible for all task-based Central Services activities. Central Services activities include, but are not limited to: decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, assembly and delivery of surgical and interventional procedure case carts, paring and replenishment of materials, and receiving and distribution of Central Services supplies.

In this position you will:

  • Decontaminate and assemble surgical instrumentation using an automated Instrument Tracking System

  • Use an electronic handheld ordering device and works with the Materials Coordinator to par, order, and replenish soft supplies in the surgical core, and CS packs storage area

  • Assemble the surgical case cart from a predetermined preference list; the case cart includes surgical instrumentation; peel packs, soft supplies, packs, and implants

  • Select appropriate method of sterilization, verify parameters, and documents sterility accurately and appropriately

  • Identify and report supply, equipment, and procedure problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager

  • Work with and under the guidance of the Lead Central Service Technician, Central Services Coordinator, and Materials Coordinator to prioritize tasks in order to support clinical operations effectively and efficiently


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Completion of formal Central Services Technician course or successfully challenged Course test

  • Current CRCST or CSPDT certification through internationally recognized organizations such as IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing) is required within six months of being hired in to the position

  • Surgical instrument knowledge

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One year related experience with surgical instrumentation in hospital Sterile Processing/ Central Services environment

  • Materials management and/or supply chain experience
