Swedish Medical Center Genetic Counselor - Maternal And Fetal Specialty Center in Seattle, Washington
Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Genetic Counselor (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Maternal And Fetal Specialty in the Seattle and surrounding areas.
The Genetic Counselor is responsible for counseling patients and referring physicians regarding risks to pregnancy due to family history, genetic disease, age, teratogenic agents etc to explain benefits, risks and limitations of various prenatal testing and to provide appropriate follow up to referring physicians and patients.
In this position you will:
Join a team of 9 genetic counselors and 9 maternal and fetal specialists at a major birthing center in the Seattle area .
Provide genetic counseling services to OB patients who are at high risk for fetal abnormalities, or patients contemplating a pregnancy who are potentially at high risk for fetal abnormalities
Explain prenatal diagnostic procedures, their benefits, risks and limitations
Be a resource of information to referring physicians about appropriate procedures, tests, risks of certain drugs and medications, and other potential teratogens, as well as benefits of direct patient counseling
Follow-up with referring physicians and patients regarding test results, summary of consultation visits, and appropriate recommendations for further testing and/or patient management
Identify labs/centers for highly specialized genetic testing and coordinates referral of samples to these centers for testing
Must have personal transportation available to travel between campuses
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree from an ACGC approved human genetics counseling program
Board Certified in genetic counseling by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counseling within 18 months of hire
Valid genetic counseling license from The Washington State Department of Health
A provisional genetic counseling license is acceptable with the expectation of a valid license within one year; must practice under supervision.
Valid Washington State driver's license is required. Possession of the minimum (or greater) auto insurance coverage as mandated by the State of Washington also required.
