Swedish Medical Center Coding Technician in Edmonds, Washington
Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Coding Technician FTE to work in Health Information Management at Swedish Edmonds Main, Edmonds, WA .
The Coding Technician assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for ancillary, recurring and emergency department service types in accordance with hospital-approved and third-party official coding guidelines. Abstracts data and codes into the clinical database system in accordance with department procedures. Provides feedback to departments regarding appropriate documentation. Maintains knowledge of current regulations with regard to coding practices. Communicates with Patient Accounting and ancillary departments regarding documentation requirements. Participates in meetings related to maintaining appropriate coding, charging, documentation and billing standards. Participates in ensuring compliance with coding and reporting requirements and receipt of entitled reimbursement.

In this position you will:
Identify reportable services and assign appropriate diagnosis, procedure and charge codes for a variety of outpatient hospital units/departments to meet the organization’s established bill drop parameters and revenue cycle goals. Consistently meet all quality and productivity standards for coding, charging and abstracting.
Accurately calculate facility charges (emergency department evaluation and management codes), and procedures, including infusion services, and including supplies.
Analyze records and abstract required information as outlined in the department abstracting procedures to ensure accurate reporting to third party payers and to ensure an accurate and complete clinical database for statistical reporting.
Identify issues that interfere with the meeting of the drop day parameters. Work with the Coding Supervisor to develop and implement action plan(s) for improvement.
Participate in the revenue cycle improvement projects as assigned.
Audit claims through the reimbursement process. Review rejected claims and billing edits to obtain and maintain correct reporting practices.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
1 year experience coding ICD-10-CM and HCPCS level I (CPT) and level II codes in an acute care setting preferred.
RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P or CPC license.
Current enrollment in or completion of Anatomy and Physiology course work.
Completion of an accredited health information management technician or administrator degree program and/or coding certification program.
