Swedish Health Services Director Surgical and Interventional Services - Nursing Administration in Edmonds, Washington

Description:

THE ROLE

The Director,Surgical and Interventional Services leads the overall administration and

management of Swedish Edmonds Interventional Services. Responsible for creating a culture of patient

safety and establishing an environment that supports clear, effective

communication between disciplines.

Strives for benchmark performance in operational efficiency, financial

planning/performance, business development, general and medical community

interface, and strategic planning.

Assures long-term campus success through overall excellence of outcomes

in clinical quality, customer service, staff, and physician satisfaction,

financial viability, and regulatory compliance within areas of

responsibility.

The Director is a key leadership role

and participates in performance improvement activities throughout the

organization including operational responsibility for the ambulatory surgery,

sterile processing, perioperative services, cardiac catheterization lab and

interventional radiology and anesthesia services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Director, Surgical and Interventional Services will have the

following accountabilities:

  • Oversees Surgical andInterventional Services.

  • Oversees or manages departmentoperations to achieve goals within budgeted funds and available personnel.Oversees workloads and staff assignments, reviews progress, directs changes inpriorities and schedules as needed to assure work is completed efficiently andeffectively.

  • Provides leadership andoversees/assists Managers in the selection, supervision and evaluation of staff.Conducts and oversees performance evaluations and initiates and/or implementsdisciplinary action as required. Resolves grievances and other sensitivepersonnel matters.

  • Ensures that written policies,procedures, work rules and standards are developed, reviewed, and updated inaccordance with evidence-based practices to assure the efficient and effectiveoperation of the department and compliance with hospital standards, JointCommission, state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.

  • Participates in meetings,committees and task forces within the organization in order to improve systems,communications and operations. Promotes systems thinking.

  • Consults with and advises NurseExecutive, physician leaders and, of issues related to the operation of thedepartments. Recommends changes in policies/procedures/systems to carry outhospital objectives effectively.

  • Actively analyzes businessdevelopment activities and needs and collaborates with other leaders toimplement business development plans. Promotes positive community and physicianrelationships in order to maintain/grow business position.

  • Establishes and maintains systemsof communications with the department(s) and ancillary departments to ensureall employees receive current and timely information; problems are identifiedand resolved.

  • Assists managers to determinedepartmental patient care quality improvement goals and objectives. Definesmetrics as related to process improvement activities. Leads or participates inhospital-wide quality improvement and patient satisfaction programs. Ensuredepartmental goals are consistent with overall hospital goals and objectives.Ensures nursing and other clinical standards are developed and met. Measuresquality of services and patient care by setting indicators and performancestandards and monitoring results. Ensures staff is clinically competent andinformed on their role in patient safety, quality and satisfaction.

  • Promotes effective work relationswith staff by developing and enabling a cooperative team within the departmentand by providing fair and consistent management direction to staff. Develops,communicates, and monitors behavior expectations. Maintains knowledge ofcritical care patient care delivery systems and patient care models. Promotesthe principles and elements of a healthful practice/work environment.

  • Ensures development ofdepartmental reports; records, collects, reviews and analyzes statistical datafor administrative and regulatory purposes. Measures and analyzes performancefrom the learning and growth, business process, customer, and financialperspectives.

  • Maintains professional growth anddevelopment to keep abreast of current regulations, technology and managementpractices relating to areas of responsibility. Participates in professionalorganizations and networking activities.

  • Promotes educationalopportunities for employees within budget guidelines to ensure a continuum ofquality patient care. Identifies educational needs of existing staff andimplements process to maintain staff competency.

  • Establishes credibility withphysicians as a champion for patient care, quality, and professionalism.Collaborates with physicians to develop patient care protocols, policies,procedures and determines patient care equipment and facility needs.Collaborates with designated medical staff leaders in determining neededpatient care services.

  • Establishes and maintains visibleleadership role in clinical areas.

  • Articulates the organization’smission, values and vision and assists employees to understand how their jobscontribute to achieving organizational goals.

  • MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILTIES: Oversees Surgical andInterventional Services.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications and experience for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

  • Current State of Washington Registered Nursing license

  • 5 years of proven leadership experience in developing, managing, and operating high performing surgical services.

  • Experience in leading and managing in an operational setting where infrastructure support is limited and geographic separation from traditional support services exists.

  • Demonstrated excellence in achieving benchmark performance related to customer service and the staff work environment/culture necessary to achieve same.

  • Proven change management skills including crafting of strategic direction, working with institutional infrastructure and processes, and effectively directing/managing tactical processes as applicable to all health care disciples.

  • Must be adaptable in dealing with the “minutiae” and diversity of daily operations and related problem solving, while retaining strategic focus and driving for long-term results.

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated success in effectively and efficiently managing surgical and interventional operations, knowledge of reimbursement practices highly desired.

  • Knowledge of local and regional health care environment/market helpful.

  • Able to achieve goals in a working environment that uses multiple modalities of communication and computer applications.

  • Must be expert with verbal and written communication.

Preferred qualifications and experience for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, healthcare administration, business administration, or comparable field
