Swedish Medical Center Lab Assistant III in Edmonds, Washington

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Lab Assistant III (1.0 FTE, Days) to work in Lab Support at Swedish Edmonds in Edmonds, WA.

The Lab Assistant III is responsible for representing the laboratory to the public, physicians, patients and offices while assisting laboratory technical staff, receiving/accessioning and/or processing specimens according to laboratory procedures.

In this position you will:

  • Perform a variety of routine blood draw procedures using proper technique by age of patient, to include venipuncture and capillary techniques while using standard equipment.

  • Receive, register, order, prepare, process and distribute specimens to specific departments for continued processing and/or testing.

  • Assist in care and maintenance of work area by wiping counters and centrifuges with disinfectant, in order to remain in compliance with regulatory agencies.

  • Participate with scheduled coworkers, evaluate workflow and prioritizing responsibilities to maximize productivity, efficiency and specimen stability.

  • Initiate, research, document and resolve any/all situations that require a Customer Service Action.

  • Performs various low-complexity testing in core laboratory and microbiology as required to support department workload. Completion of appropriate testing competency is required annually.

  • Monitor the workflow of the receiving/accessioning/processing areas to ensure timeliness and accuracy of initial processing of specimens.

  • Drive company vehicles to perform phlebotomy at private homes, Assisted Living facilities or Adult Family Homes.

  • Assist with the orientation of new employees/students, providing them with consistent information.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy program through a post-secondary school, college or military program.

  • Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy license

  • Seven hours of AIDS education as required under WAC 246-827.

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s license with an Insurable driving record as determined by Swedish Hospital Services Insurance provider when trained to do Home Draw Services.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Prior phlebotomy experience.
