Swedish Medical Center Mammography Technologist - Mammography in Edmonds, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Mammography Technologist (Per Diem, Days) to work for Mammography at Swedish Edmonds in Edmonds, Washington.

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of radiological technical procedures specific to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in a high volume outpatient setting. Responsible for producing high quality radiographic images while interacting with all patients in a caring and comforting manner. Jointly responsible for performing required quality control activities as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and the FDA.

In this position you will:

  • Interacts with patient, explaining procedure thoroughly and answering any questions as appropriate. Models excellence in professional radiologic practice at all times while also functioning as a patient advocate.

  • Accurately produces mammographic images per protocol, making appropriate technical adjustments for body size and habitus, age, and past medical history. Analyzes technical quality of film and repeats when appropriate.

  • Assists the Radiologist with procedures, including (but not limited to),stereotactic core biopsy, galactography, needle localizations, and ultrasound guided aspirations and cores(in the absence of an ultrasonographer).

  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of radiation safety principles for both patients and self. Provides radiation protection when appropriate.

  • Participates in the departmental Quality Control as required.

  • Keeps work area neat, orderly and well stocked with the necessary supplies. Cleans equipment and rooms after each use, in accordance with established procedures.

  • Attends and participates in the marketing, promotional and educational activities of Stevens Hospital and the Breast Care Center, serving as a proponent of such.

  • Performs related support duties in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to, contacting and scheduling recall patients, completing required computerized exam data entry, completion of exam worksheets, file room activities.

  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the overall departmental operation, following departmental policies and procedures.

  • Maintain CPR certification and attend applicable hospital in-services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of a formal radiologic technology training program, which meets the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

  • Current Washington State Certified Radiologic Technologist-Diagnostic license required. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current ARRT advanced certification in mammography preferred. If not certified in mammography, candidate will be required to seek and pass advanced certification within one year of employment.

  • Ability to accurately produce high quality diagnostic mammographic images. Ability to perform, in conjunction with the physician staff, related special procedures. Working knowledge of breast anatomy, proper radiographic exposure factors and procedures for mandated quality control activities. Demonstrates independent judgment and initiative while functioning as part of a team. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with departmental staff members, physicians, patients, and their families along with other internal and external customers. Working knowledge of a variety of x-ray equipment and associated applications (specifically mammography and processing units). Computer skills in a Windows 95 environment required. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Two years of full-time mammography experience strongly preferred.
