Critical Care units open for August 2019:

  • ICU / IMCU - First Hill and Edmonds

  • The IMCU (intermediate care unit) sees a diverse group of patients including stroke patients, surgical post-op, cardiac, renal, hepatic, sepsis, etc. It is a combination of an IMCU and Telemetry unit where they are training new nurses who are ready to take their careers to the next level. Patients have high acuity and our residents are introduced to critical care at Swedish.

  • CVICU - Cherry Hill

  • The Cherry Hill Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 22 bed Beacon Award recipient unit that cares for a wide array of patients including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacements, aneurysm repairs, as well as mixed cases. The CVICU handles significantly high acuity and provides the opportunity for new nurses to be trained for the array of support devices used in the unit. Come join our tight-knit family!

  • NCCU

  • The Neuro Critical Care Unit’s practice is centered on the best patient outcomes, best place to work and practice, best quality and safety, best use of resources, and best customer service. Swedish Cherry Hill’s NCCU is part of a comprehensive stroke center that treats the most complex stroke cases and other neurological emergencies for the greater Washington area and surrounding states. We are an ambitious group of men and women who are compassionate caregivers committed to making the NCCU a recognized team on the regional and national level.

  • Cohort hiring provides new RNs the opportunity to experience the program in a setting that provides a consistent and structured experience.

  • Integrated classroom and clinical experiences under the guidance and support of Preceptors, Clinical Educators and Professional Development Specialists. Clinical experience is under the direct one on one supervision of a Preceptor.

  • Swedish nurses chose a system-wide professional practice model through a collaborative vote as part of SMC’s Clinical Excellence and Magnet Journey. This journey initiated a new culture of excellence and has enhanced nursing professional practice by fostering nursing autonomy and empowerment.

  • Simulated Clinical Experience with high fidelity mannequins, which offers the opportunity to practice in a safe and educationally structured environment.

  • Residents will experience the real-time consequences of their nursing actions and decisions. A thorough debriefing will enhance the learning experience.

  • At Swedish, we highly value our RN staff and strive to offer numerous professional development opportunities both at the individual level as well as opportunities to participate in shared leadership, our Nursing Quality leadership group, among others.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • RN Fellows are hired into "orientation" positions/units. Near the end of the orientation phase, RN Fellows are assigned to work on a specific unit and shift. Most RN residents stay on the unit they are oriented to, but if there is no open position on that unit the RN Fellow will be transferred to a similar unit where a position is open. Most are assigned to 12 hour night shifts.

  • RN Fellows are hired in three cohort groups each year

  • Applications are accepted prior to licensure, but an active RN license is required prior to the start date.

  • Applications are screened by the Human Resources Department.

  • Applicants that successfully meet the requirements of the position will be contacted for a phone or video interview by the Recruiter.

  • Additional in-person interviews will be conducted with the hiring manager and peer interview team for those applicants who are successful in the HR screening process.

Qualifications:

To be considered for the critical care RN Fellow Program:

  • You must have at least 1 year of recent RN experience in an acute care hospital or setting.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Heart Association (AHA) - (Healthcare Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire. ACLS training and certification will occur during the orientation process.

  • Strong preference will be given to graduates of an accredited BSN program.

  • Active Washington State RN license by July 26th, 2019.Willingness to commit to full-time employment for 2 years. RN Fellows sign a 2 year agreement with Swedish.

  • Ability to work evening, night and weekend shifts.

  • The RN Fellow program is an intense program and we cannot approve any voluntary time off during the orientation period (estimated 24 weeks)
