Swedish Health Services RN - Issaquah Swedish Cancer Institute in Issaquah, Washington
Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in the Issaquah Swedish Cancer Institute at Swedish First Hill in Issaquah, WA.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care adapted to individual patient needs based on the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position is accountable and responsible on a continuing basis for planning and providing comprehensive outpatient care to patient/families with cancer being cared for by the Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology physician(s) at the Swedish Cancer Institute. The nurse's understanding of the pathophysiology of cancer, as well as the major treatment modalities, protocols and investigational protocols enables him/her to participate fully in all phases of care for the patient and their significant support system. This position is accountable and responsible on a continuing basis for providing infusions (including chemotherapy and biologic therapy), blood products, and procedures to the ambulatory patient at the direction of the physician. The nurse is also responsible for triage, symptom management, patient/family education, and end-of life care issues for medical oncology and radiation oncology patients.
In this position you will:
Collects pertinent assessment data that includes present condition, past history, physical, spiritual and psychosocial information utilizing input from patient, significant other, and/or healthcare team members as applicable. Interprets data to identify the patient’s needs and potential problems.
Develops, reviews, and revises an individualized care plan within the time frame identified in documentation standards. Establishes expected outcomes that are measurable and achievable.
Coordinates care with medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion and other disciplines as necessary e.g. social services, hospice, assisted living, and inpatient care.
Provides office support. Assumes responsibility for management of the patient’s care needs in the radiation oncologists’ clinic and medical oncologist clinic as established by the patient care team.
Evaluates patient’s response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate. Documents changes in condition and interventions.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire
All Registered Nurses without a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing must obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher within 6 years of hire
A RN with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN
Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis at each facility by the most senior administrative nursing leader in consultation with the Human Resources leader
Current Washington State Registered Nursing license
Current BLS certification
Acute care experience working with the patient population similar to department of hire or completion of the specialty residency located at that facility
ACLS required within 3 months of hire or transfer to Medical Oncology
Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Oncology Certified Nurse certification
IV Therapy certification
