Swedish Medical Center Chair of Neurosurgery, Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington

Description:

THE ROLE

This is an unparalleled opportunity for a distinguished Chair to provide strategic leadership and vision for the Neurosurgery program. He/she will be accountable to the RCCO and SHS Chief Operating Officer for the performance of the Institute. The Chair of Neurosurgery will report to the Regional Chief Clinical Officer. The Chair of Neurosurgery will meet regularly with the RCCO and SHS Chief Operating Officer to monitor and review progress. The RCCO will conduct an annual evaluation of the Chair of Neurosurgery’s performance and accomplishments. During the annual evaluation, the upcoming year objectives and goals will be determined and memorialized in an evaluation repository.

The Chair of Neurosurgery will have administrative/clinical responsibility and model behaviors and actions that are in support of the SHS mission, vision and values, and that fulfills our promise of patients and communities first.

With their dyad partner, the Chair of Neurosurgery develops the strategic plan and communicates the vision for the program with the team in coordination with SHS administration and in support of the SHS Strategic Plan.

The Chair of Neurosurgery works in a dyad partnership with an Administrative partner.

The Chair with their dyad partner executes the goals of the program strategic plan.

The Chair of Neurosurgery is responsible for ensuring that all medical programs under his/her leadership conform to SHS standards of quality of care and that physicians and advanced practice clinicians (“APCs”) adhere to all applicable SHS guidelines.

The Chair is responsible for the development of the physician and APC recruitment plan.

Chair of Neurosurgery is responsible for providing annual performance reviews for all of the providers in their program/area of oversight in accordance with SHS policy and procedures.

The Chair of Neurosurgery with their Dyad partner ensures that clinic staff is well informed regarding relevant strategy, direction, current issues and management response to those issues.

The Chair of Neurosurgery shares joint accountability with their dyad partner for attainment of financial performance targets.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities within these categorized fields:

Patient Access

  • Develop a culture and environment that engages patients and their families in addressing their respective needs.

  • Partner with physician leaders to coordinate physician schedules to optimize access

  • Serve as a Strategic Partner with Primary Care and Ambulatory Leadership to optimize patient access and referral process for respective institute/service line

Clinical Quality

  • Champion the development of best-in-class clinical quality and outcomes across the care continuum.

  • Ensure the alignment and execution of the Providence St. Joseph Health Clinical Program Services Quality and Operating Metrics.

  • Serve or delegate participation on the Providence St. Joseph Health Clinical Program Services Institute Leadership Council.

Patient Satisfaction

  • Actively champion initiatives and programs to optimize patient-centered design and patient experience in their institute/service line to achieve best-in-class patient experience.

  • Provide leadership among all levels of clinicians and staff to provide a patient- and family-centered experience of care.

  • Orchestrate a coordinated care experience of service excellence across the continuum.

Provider Engagement Development and Performance

  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure there is clarity to the vision and accountabilities to achieve the goals of the institute and SHS.

  • Partner with Providence St. Joseph Health Provider Services division to develop comprehensive provider recruitment plans.

  • Act as a servant leader to enhance the engagement and retention of physicians and reduce provider turnover.

  • Promptly address provider performance, behavior and impairment issues seeking assistance and guidance from SHS leadership, as appropriate.

  • Serve as a professional link between the Medical Staff Governance Structure, other Swedish medical directors, departments and administration to facilitate communication, and engage in the development of interdisciplinary treatment teams and approaches.

Financial Performance, Resource Allocation and Program Planning

  • Partner with Swedish Executive Leadership and Administrative dyad in the creation of the Institute Program Plan in support of the SHS Strategic Plan.

  • On an annual basis, update objectives and goals with the accountable leader and dyad partner based on previous year accomplishments and organizational needs and strategies.

  • Successfully implement agreed upon Program goals and initiatives.

  • Continually pursue financial Stewardship to optimize the performance of the service line or institute.

  • Engage with Administrative Dyad to provide input for the annual budget planning.

  • Provide input in the design of staffing models and human resource allocation.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

The Neurosurgery Chair is an MD or equivalent degree (M.D/PhD., or MBBS or D.O.), be eligible for a WA License, Board Certified in Neurosurgery. Demonstrated experience in leadership roles (Division Chief or higher), at an operational level within a sophisticated Institute and/or integrated healthcare delivery system.
