Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Clinical Nutrition Specialist (Per Diem , DAY SHIFT) to work in Dietary Consultants at Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle, WA.

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a dedicated Clinical Nutrition Specialist who will assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates all aspects of a patient's nutrition care. The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is able to use validated tools to identify patients that require nutrition interventions or that have the potential for developing nutrition related problems. They provide a nutrition assessment which may include anthropometric measures and/or growth measures, pertinent biochemical data and medical test results; a nutrition focused physical assessment and a food and nutrition –related history assessment. They identify specific nutrition related problem(s) and they provide specific, purposeful interventions to improve or change the nutrition and health status for their patient or client. They provide nutrition education to individuals and/or caregivers. They assist in the management of the department resources. They support orientation, training and education for department and medical center staff. Performs related tasks as required.

In this position you will:

  • Uses the Swedish Medical Center Nutrition Screening and Assessment Policy and Procedure (for Adults or Pediatrics) to identify and provide a nutrition assessment for patients requiring nutrition interventions or with the potential for developing nutrition related problems. Effectively uses anthropometric measures and/or growth measurements, laboratory data, medical test results, medical history, food and nutrition history and behavioral and cultural factors in their nutrition assessment.

  • Performs nutrition focused physical exams when appropriate and incorporates the results into the patient nutrition assessment.

  • Organizes nutrition risk factors, complications and assessment data to identify and label specific nutrition problems that the Clinical Nutrition Specialist will address.

  • Provides a nutrition diagnosis of malnutrition in hospitalized patients using approved criteria. Communicates the diagnosis to the LIP.

  • Develops a specific nutrition care plan and plans interventions based on the nutrition assessment and diagnosis.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelors degree in Food & Nutrition or Dietetics

  • Coursework/Training completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Internship

  • APPLIES ONLY TO RDs WORKING WITH ICU ADULT PATIENTS:

  • 3 Years completion of an approved Dietetic Internship with a strong clinical nutrition component.

  • Inpatient clinical nutrition experience and experience managing complex nutrition support.

  • Completion of an approved Dietetic Internship with a strong clinical nutrition component which includes focused training in pediatric nutrition.

  • Registered Dietitian.

  • Washington State Certified Dietitian or obtains certification within 6 months of hire.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree

  • APPLIES ONLY TO RDs WORKING WITH PEDIATRIC AND NEO-NATAL PATIENTS: Recent experience in Pediatric and/or Neo-natal nutrition.
