Swedish Medical Center Coding Tech - Coding and Abstracting in Seattle, Washington


Where you work matters! Swedish Medical Center is looking for a 0FTE Coding Technician to work day in the Coding and Abstracting Department at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Coding Technician assigns diagnosis and procedure codes on inpatient or outpatient cases using ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems, assigns DRGs using the Centers of Medicine and Medicaid Services and All Patient groupers and abstracts data for statistical, reimbursement and regulatory requirements.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure coding compliance.

  • Assign optimal CMS MS-DRGs and All Patient DRGs.

  • Provide education to the medical staff, case managers and hospital staff on documentation, coding and DRG assignment.

  • Provide concurrent coding consultation to clinical documentation specialist.

  • Attend and actively participate in Coding staff Clinical Documentation Improvement Team meetings.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Demonstrated literacy with Microsoft Office software

  • 2 years or more of ICD-9CM and CPT Coding Experience performing Hospital

  • Based inpatient and outpatient coding

  • Associates Degree

  • Completion of Certified Coding Program

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

  • Certified Procedural Coder Hospital (CPC-H)

  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
