Swedish Medical Center Decision Support Analyst - Clinical Value Performance Improvement in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Shared Services is looking for a Decision Support Analyst (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in the Clinical Value Performance Imp at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Decision Support Analyst plans, organizes and performs analysis to support business development, operations and clinical improvement projects throughout the Medical Center. Supports Decision Support users and senior management staff with expertise in databases, analysis and standard CQI tools and quantitative decision processes

In this position you will:

  • Performs complex system and operations analyses and makes recommendations for improvement

  • Provides Ad Hoc analyses and routine requests for both clinical and financial reporting

  • Assists with maintenance of the HPM system, including testing to verify coding, physician roles and demographics, grouping, and other checks on weekly updates and during upgrades, updating Service Line and Service Category algorithms annually

  • Prepares Standard reports including: • Monthly case mix index, service line analysis, utilization reports. • Monthly immunizations, expiration reports. • WSHA reporting and AHA reporting

  • Creates and monitors operational, financial and clinical benchmarking tools for areas of strategic clinical interest to the Medical Center

  • Documents financial contribution of various programs and/or service lines and assists Cost Accounting in identifying areas of potential cost reallocation

  • Assists with monthly costing updates

  • Demonstrates ability to participate fully in team projects in collaboration with physicians, clinical management and support staffs

  • Maintains adequate documentation for analysis, data retrieval and troubleshooting activities

  • Provides back up and vacation relief for routine functions within the department

  • Identifies and develops new methods in Decision Support system

  • Acts as a center of excellence for quantitative decision-making and provide problem solving skills.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health administration, health information, nursing, statistics, accounting, quality management or similar discipline

  • Experience in defining problems, collecting data, and testing conclusions.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare organizations and metrics, financial accounting, and database applications

  • Ability to critically analyze financial documents for correctness

  • Thorough knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications, including development of financial proforma

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Health administration or related field

  • Acute care experience

  • Work experience in financial forecasting and budget management
