Swedish Medical Center Director of Imaging Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish is calling a Director of Imaging Services to Swedish Health Services in Seattle, WA.


This is an unparalleled opportunity for a Director of Imaging Services.

In consideration of the mission and values, this role provides leadership to the assigned Imaging departments at Swedish Medical Group as well as some of our acute care facilities. The director is accountable for clinical quality and financial performance.

The Director

of Imaging Services will be responsible for the following functions:

Demonstrate Mission/Values:

Assures individual respect for all while maintaining composure in dealing with difficult situations.

Fosters a caring environment for customers and employees

Establish and Monitor Effective Systems of Communication:

Holds regular department staff meetings; maintains open communication

with department employees.

Demonstrates professional demeanor and the ability to

communicate effectively with individuals and groups.

Remains calm and constructive when dealing with difficult

issues, persons, and circumstances.

Demonstrates strong communication with medical staff

regarding Swedish’s services to the physicians.

Solicits information from managers, supervisors, and

staff in problem-solving process improvement.

Resolves inter- and/or intra- department complaints

promptly and effectively.

Utilize Effective Leadership and Human Resource Skills:

Actively monitors turnover and seeks retention


Supervise all staff fairly and consistently.

Develop staff through coaching, cross training,

internal/external education opportunities to improve or enhance job skills.

Actively and willingly participates in assigned committees,

task forces and other work groups.

Attend at least 80% of all management meetings/retreats

and/or other management functions.

Participates in 95% of management skills development via

internet programs or management education sessions requested by their assistant


Ensures department evaluations are maintained at 95%


Strategically Plan for Department:

Prepares department goals and objectives which support

system initiatives.

Conducts regular review of process towards goals and

demonstrates satisfactory progress toward identified goals.

Maintains active knowledge of trends within specialty and

external markets and communicates these to administration to enhance overall

planning effectiveness.

Provide Staff Support to a Variety of Committees:

Creates and distributes agendas, attends meetings to take

minutes, prepares and distributes accurate minutes that are timely, maintains

all meeting records.

Develop and Maintain the Patient Safety Database:

Enters required information according to department time

standards, audits entry to ensure accuracy.

Produces prescribed reports for distribution to Patient

Safety Committee.

Promotes Quality within Department:

Develops, implement, monitors and evaluates department

specific performance and service standards; takes initiative to implement

quality improvement efforts.

Assures all regulatory standards and other operation

standards are adhered to and documented.

Ensures that quality records/reports are prepared and

submitted in a timely manner.

Ensures that risk management reports are followed up

promptly and reported to Risk Management.

Financial Performance:

Accurately prepares annual budgets in accordance with

Swedish goals and objectives.

Consistently operates department budgets/cost centers

within the approved budget.

Consistently monitors productivity standards in response

to volume changes.

Consistently demonstrates focus on cost management and

cost reduction.

Others Duties Assigned:

Time management: Consistently meets work deadlines,

schedules and provides project work in a timely manner.

Analytical ability: Demonstrates skills in technical

analysis and evaluation, problem-solving, presenting options for resolution and

initiating appropriate actions steps.



  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; a Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred.

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in Imaging Services.

  • 5 years of leadership experience in an ambulatory or inpatient Imaging Department setting.

  • Unencumbered and valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists(AART) OR American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers(ARDMS) Certifications in the State of Washington.

  • Knowledge of local, State, and Federal Laws and regulations related to disciplines.

  • Working knowledge of JCAHO Standards, department specific regulations, leadership principles, financial/budgeting principles, and quality principles.

  • Adept skills in organizing and prioritizing work, effective communications, and relationship building.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and patients.

  • Ability to identify and lead quality and projects.

  • Capability of establishing and monitoring budgets, while proactively identifying and resolving issues.
