Swedish Medical Center Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Trainer (Relief) in Seattle, Washington

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Trainer (On Call, Day) to work in the Injury Management Program at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Trainer is responsible for supporting the Safe Patient Handling and Injury Management program by following up on identified educational needs, assisting in development of content, and implementation of the training program.

In this position you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, and provide education for both patient and non-patient care staff regarding lifts and transfer

  • Plans, coordinates, and provides education for both patient and non-patient care staff regarding office ergonomics

  • Performs and/or follows-up with basic ergonomic assessments of employees’ work stations and makes recommendations for changes that will improve body mechanics

  • Acts as a resource for safe lifts and transfers of patients in a variety of situations including but not limited to bed to chair, bed to stretcher, floor to chair or bed, stretcher transportation, assistance with ambulation and any difficult moves

  • Orient new staff and provide ongoing training of staff on proper body mechanics involved in various work settings

  • Promote rehabilitation, preventive strategies, wellness, and return to work processes with departments

  • Works with Ergonomics and Injury Reduction Specialist to plan, implement, and evaluate injury prevention programs and training

  • Assists with the implementation of pre-hire and/or post-injury assessments related to ergonomic capacity

  • Meets all documentation requirements in a complete and timely manner including but not limited to: outcome data collection, clinical information, policy updates, safe patient handling equipment allocation, training, continuing and in-service education, etc

  • Makes clinical rounds across all sites and units to measure compliance and assess educational needs. Provides just in time training and education

  • Assesses efficacy of sling management on units and offers strategies for improvement

  • Performs training and education on injury prevention to employees, department leadership and management of individual departments, one to one, in small groups, or in a formal presentation format; e.g.: orientation, skills training, champion training

  • Evaluates clinical competence of personnel on a regular basis in various skills training and orientation programs and makes recommendations to the applicable Department Director, Clinical Education and Practice Department, or other applicable hospital personnel, etc., on a timely basis

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • A graduate of an accredited program of exercise physiology, kinesiology, physical or occupational therapy assistant program or licensed physical or occupational therapist

  • CEAS License within 18 months of hire

  • Must have proficiency ofergonomics knowledge to allow for focus on solving human performance problemsby providing education, training, therapy and practical advice on how to changehuman-related factors affected by the technological components of the workenvironment

  • Valid Washington State drivers’ license and ability to travel to all campuses

  • Possession of the minimum(or greater) auto insurance coverage as mandated by the state of Washingtonalso required

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Three years of healthcare experience with emphasis in injury prevention programs
