Swedish Medical Center Financial Services Representative - Central Business Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Group is looking for a Financial Services Representative (1.0 FTE, Days) to work in Central Business Service at the Bank of America Building in Seattle, WA.

The required hours for this position are 9:30am - 6:00pm.

The Financial Services Representative ensures that a high level of customer service is maintained in the area of patient accounts including billing, collections, billing adjustments, credit, and third-party payments. You will also counsel patients, interpret and communicate credit policies and procedures, and process and maintain records related to billing and collections

In this position you will:

  • Manage delinquent accounts and, when appropriate, contacting patients by telephone, sending collection letters, and responding to correspondence as appropriate

  • Determine collectability of patient accounts and process for financial assistance, extended payment plan, settlement, or collection agency referral; serve as a liaison between the clinic and collection agencies

  • Interpret and communicate information regarding credit policies and procedures, billing practices, insurance submission, and out-of-pocket patient responsibility to patients and clinic staff

  • Process all mail returns and obtain correct address

  • Ensure patient satisfaction through timely and effective patient account maintenance including assistance with billing, third-party payments, requests for collections and adjustments, information verification, credit options, and record maintenance

  • Ensure accurate account information in all billing areas. Obtain correct information and update system when billing information is incorrect or missing


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • 1 year healthcare experience or equivalent collection and/or customer service experience

  • Ability to handle conflict positively

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Current knowledge of collection laws and regulations preferred
