Swedish Medical Center Implant Materials Specialist in Seattle, Washington

Swedish Medical Center is looking for an Implant Materials Specialist to work for the Product Distribution Center at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

This is a per diem, variable shift position.

The Implant Materials Specialist is responsible for providing on-site surgical inventory and supply management; this includes ordering, monitoring, and tracking of implants, supplies, and human tissue. This position works closely with the Materials Coordinator, Swedish vendors, and specialty Charge RNs to coordinate and ensure the delivery of products to support surgical and interventional procedures. The Specialist is accountable reviewing the two-week Operating Room schedule and communicating needs to the clinical staff and/or Swedish vendors.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure proper supply authorization in EPIC for charging, and communicating the use of special items to the Swedish Billing Department.

  • Reconcile supply charges in the patient log following a surgical procedure; may be required to assist a circulating RN with charge capture in the operating room.

  • Participate in Value Analysis activities and coordinates the delivery of supplies from Swedish vendors and/or other Swedish Medical Center facilities.

  • May be required to perform routine supply chain activities, such as stocking procedural areas, and ordering supplies in PeopleSoft.

  • Provide vendors with purchase order number for non stock items used during surgery; accounts for all lot and serial number for human, bovine and porcine tissue in accordance with Joint Commission guidelines and complies with all other regulatory requirements.

  • Will routinely print and label product barcodes on chargeable supplies and ensure the functionality of charge throughput in the interventional and surgical areas of the hospital.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology, products and procedures

  • Knowledge of specialized and technical healthcare processes

  • The ability to work in a busy, high-pressure environment without direct supervision

  • Must possess the functional skills of typing, use of computers, computer software, as well as the ability to learn other software applications necessary in the performance of essential duties and functions

  • Ability to effectively utilize the computerized MMIS (materials management information system)

  • Working knowledge of surgery department's overall daily operational processes

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate degree or up to 12 months post-high-school training in a healthcare material management environment which utilized a perpetual inventory supply system

  • Completion of a formal training program in materials management, sterile processing, surgical technology, or military hospital corpsman

  • Four years experience in an acute care hospital or ambulatory surgical clinic working with surgical supplies, products and equipment, with the ability to interpret surgical schedule and to purchase medical supplies utilizing inventory and/or supply chain ordering system
