Swedish Health Services Insurance Specialist - Central Business Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Group is looking for an Insurance Specialist (1.0 FTE, DAY SHIFT) to work in Central Business Services at Swedish Medical Group in Seattle, WA.

Responsible for obtaining up to date insurance information and communicating accurate information, including agency requirements, to the appropriate individuals. Act as expert for internal customers in insurers doing business in our region, such as government plans (DSHS, Medicare, Tricare) and fully insured, self-insured, PPOs, etc

In this position you will:

  • Monitor changes in the health insurance industry that affect payment of claims; communicate changes to appropriate staff

  • Maintain and update list of insurance carriers and employers

  • Act as a resource for staff members, regarding health insurance claims policies and procedures for all types of insurance plans

  • Manage Epic Generic Work Queue to filter incoming registration information; make changes to insurance roster as necessary

  • Develop training program, to include information, format, and procedure design

  • Train and orient staff, including new employees, of insurance regulations, policies and procedures

  • Assist registering patients with the appropriate insurance per information on patient identification cards; travel to clinics as necessary

  • Notify database administrator of any insurance company changes, additions or deletions

  • Work closely with Manager to continually update and improve internal functions

  • Monitor insurance registration issues; assist with corrections to ensure timely filing

  • Demonstrate competency with all position-related software programs (Epic, Word, Outlook, etc.)


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Five (5) years experience in insurance billing, such as (but not limited to), within an insurance follow-up department

  • WA State Drivers’ License
