Swedish Medical Center Maintenance Engineer I in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Maintenance Engineer I to work full-time on the day shift in Facility Management at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Maintenance Engineer I is responsible for performing high skill level troubleshooting, diagnosis, installation and repair of critical and non-critical mechanical plant systems and equipment. Systems include HVAC – plumbing – electrical - medical gas – fire and life safety and other specialized equipment .

In this position you will:

  • HVAC – Advanced knowledge of the location, use, control of and maintenance processes for chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers, steam controls, VFD, VAV, CAV, pneumatic controls, induction units, and building automation systems.

  • Plumbing – Specifies and installs all industry standard piping, valves and fittings (MBI – copper – cast – poly). Installs and repairs faucets, flushometers, sinks, toilets, DWV, drain cleaning, backflows, steam traps.

  • Electrical – Responsible for generators, ATS, MCC, motors, disconnects, inter-ties, breakers, lighting, ballasts, testing equipment, switches, and outlets. Assist with monthly generator testing and scheduled maintenance. Inspect, lubricate and connect power to motors. Knowledge of location and functions of disconnects, breakers and inter-ties. Diagnose and replace lighting, ballasts, switches and outlets.

  • Medical Gas – Ability to troubleshoot, inspect, calibrate and perform testing and repairs on compressors, vacuum pumps, scrubbers, air pumps, filtration, monitoring, calibration, and gas outlets.

  • Fire/Life Safety – Ability to identify system types and locations. Ability to locate, operate and/or test valves, pumps, pressurization fans and emergency elevator operation procedures. Perform and/or assist AHJ, testing companies and Facilities with all testing requirements as indicated by CMMS and departmental documentation. Perform high skill level of fire control function, alarm system devices, sprinkler system function; wet and dry systems, pump and valve locations, FDC pressurization fans and elevator recall functions, suppression system and emergency lighting testing. Knowledge, location and ability to silence panels, SFD protocol for resetting alarm panel, arm and disarm points and replacement of detectors and initiating devices.

  • Preventative Maintenance – Performs all of the requirements for the preventative maintenance of all equipment and spaces referenced in this document and/or the logical extension thereof. Familiar with O&M specifications, Inspection, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, painting, tagging, labeling mechanical plant equipment and spaces.

  • Patient Care Equipment – Familiar with all patient lifts - regular and specialty beds and their functions. Be able to troubleshoot normal failure points and perform testing of beds and patient lifts.

  • Security – Familiar with and be able to cut keys, troubleshoot and repair/replace locks, access controls and mag locks.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school education or GED

  • Must have successfully completed at least two formal specialized, related training courses.

  • Must have at least four years experience in equipment inspection, testing, repair and maintenance of required systems and equipment

  • Must have solid background in the use of common and sophisticated tools and systems.
