Swedish Medical Center Manager of Patient Safety - Administration in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Manager of Patient Safety(1.0 FTE, Days) in Administration at Swedish First Hill in Seattle,WA.

The Manager of Patient Safety is a key role inhelping us achieve that aim. The Managerof Patient Safety understands industry best practice in the space of patientsafety and works across Providence St. Joseph Health and Swedish HealthServices to help lead the organization to a harm-free future.

In this position you will:

  • Inconcert with the other members of the Quality Division, the Manger of PatientSafety helps lead the patient safety team, which focuses on event response,including investigation and reporting, root cause or common cause analysis,communication with patients, families and caregivers and learning from events,including Swedish region education.

  • TheManager of Patient Safety also works with other members of the Quality Divisionto put in place action plans to ensure that we reduce and ultimately eliminateharm.As such, an ability to work wellwith complex case-based and numeric patient safety data and to communicateeffectively with a broad group of stakeholders, including executive leaders, isa must for this essential position.

  • Thisrole works closely as a dyad with the medical director of patient safety andhas a number of direct reports, currently including the patient safety officersand a Safety Program Coordinator.

  • Systemroles include coordinating the patient safety program at Swedish HealthServices with patient safety work at the Providence St. Joseph Health System(PSJH) level.This includes bestpractices in case analysis, work with the Datix event reporting system,reporting serious safety events to system leadership and any other safetyprograms directed by the PSJH clinical council.

  • Regionalduties include optimizing the patient safety program in the Swedish regionincluding optimizing event reporting, event communication, event analysis, andreporting these events to the appropriate Quality and Safety committees atSwedish Health Services.

  • TheManager of patient safety will work with appropriate stakeholders to createeffective tools for event notification, communication and event responsethrough Swedish Health System.

  • This rolewill work closely with the quality management structures at Swedish to assurethat corrective and preventative actions are incorporated to campus, group andsystem quality management programs.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelors Degree required, BSN preferred.

  • 3 years in a supervisory role is required

  • 2 years experience as a patient safetyofficer/risk officer or similar position with experience doing cause analysisrequired

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • MastersDegree in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Business Administration orrelated field strongly preferred.

  • ClinicalDegree and experience such as RN, PT, Pharmacist is strongly preferred.

  • CurrentWashington State Registered Nurse license strongly preferred.
