Swedish Medical Center Material Distribution and Receiving Technician in Seattle, Washington


Swedish is calling a Material Distribution and Receiving Technician to our location in Seattle, WA.

We are seeking a Material Distribution and Receiving Technician to utilizes a computerized MMIS (Materials Management Information System) and associated hardware / software, to conduct physical inventories, replenishment of supply areas (such as patient care and ancillary areas), receive incoming stock and non-stock freight and parcel shipments, and put away inventory items. Prepare and coordinates outgoing parcel and freight shipments. This position is also responsible for processing fax, phone, electronic order entry, and walk up supply requests in the MSC. Enter data into the MMIS in order to inventory, pick, deliver, and stock products associated with the aforementioned

functions, all with a high level of accuracy to ensure accountability for all products and equipment in the MSC (Materials Service Center). Deliver stock and non-stock products, and packages to the appropriate department / areas. Rotate stock in MSC inventories, and on par levels on a first-in/first-out basis in accordance with departmental and industry standards. This position has regular interactions with internal and external customers, including co-workers, other Swedish employees, patients and visitors, representatives from other hospitals and various vendors. May support mail function as needed.

In this position you will:

  • Notify supervisor or designee of discrepancies in on-hand counts, product shortages and emergent situations where a shortage or increased product demand is experienced or anticipated.

  • Conduct inventory cycle counts (or other physical inventory procedures, expiration date inspections) as directed by MSC supervisor or designee to ensure inventory accuracy and accountability for asset inventory.

  • Utilize the MMIS to verify the quality, quantity and condition of incoming goods.

  • Follow department policy to notify purchasing and document discrepancies on parcel, freight or other shipments and resolve problem shipments as directed by purchasing or other supply chain management procedures in a timely manner.

  • Properly identify and label supplies, parcels and received items for delivery to supply and ancillary areas, using the MMIS or other tracking system when applicable to create an audit trail and account for the delivery of items as outlined by department procedures.

  • Prepare parcel and freight shipments for pick-up by various carriers.

  • Prioritize the receipt and delivery of all expedited shipments, including air (FedEx, UPS Red, etc.), taxi cab, special courier, temperature sensitive, and all shipments designated “stat” or “rush” shipments by Purchasing or Supply Chain Management.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience

  • 1 year of inventory systems, receiving, warehouse, and/or supply distribution using a computerized MMIS in a perpetual inventory system within the previous three years.

  • Must possess the functional skills of typing, use of computers, computer software, as well as the ability to learn other software applications necessary in the performance of essential duties and functions.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize a computerized MMIS.

  • Knowledge of general office equipment such as fax machines, copy machines, and printers.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training in inventory and supply distribution management.

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.

  • Experience with material handling equipment (hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.).

  • Basic knowledge of receiving and shipping principles.

  • Medical terminology training.
