Swedish Medical Center Monitor Technician II - Intensive Care EICU in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Monitor Technician II (Per Diem, Variable Shift) to work in Intensive Care EICU at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The monitor tech II (MT) is responsible for continuously monitoring patients via telemetry of oxygen saturation (Sp02) levels and/or electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythm on patients from a remote workstation located in the TeleICU Clinical Operations Room (COR) or other nursing units.

In this position you will:

  • Communicate all concerns to Staff Registered Nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse.

  • Utilizes TeleICU RN (tRN) as a resource.

  • If unable to reach bedside RN in a timely manner, the MT may escalate the concern by calling the Charge Nurse, Rapid Response Team or Code Blue per unit procedure.

  • Provides clerical support to the workflows of the TeleICU clinical staff (tMD and tRN).

  • Assists and participates with the orientation of new Monitor Tech I and Nursing staff.

  • Will be assigned to Trending Monitoring or Live Monitoring based on needs of the business.

  • Maintain telemetry monitoring equipment and report malfunctioning equipment to Clinical Engineering.

  • Responsible for alarm management in collaboration with nursing: setting low/high rate alarms and assuring that alarms are on at all times.

  • For both SPO2 and ECG, the MT notifies staff of low battery alerts, network connectivity, any interference of the signal, equipment malfunction, etc. The MT is responsible for documenting initiation and discontinuation of Sp02, RRA, ECG monitoring in the TeleICU Log, as well as reporting quality variances and all safety concerns.

  • Be responsible for performing general secretarial/clerical duties supporting Tele ICU activities.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia Interpretation class

  • Previous Monitor Techs must pass a challenge exam.

  • Experience as a Unit Coordinator/Unit Secretary in Acute/Hospital Setting.

  • 1 year of recent ECG Monitoring Experience.

  • Managing a patient monitoring load of 35 patients on mulitple monitors.

  • Working knowledge of Window’s based applications.

  • CPR Certification.

  • Strong customer service skills for working with internal and external staff/clients.

  • Ability to operate or to learn to operate unit-specific equipment and computer applications.

  • Possess the knowledge to operate a central workstation and associated equipment for oxygen saturation monitoring (Massimo, pagers, CISCO phones, etc.) and clerical tasks to support TeleICU services (eCareManager, Philips Monitors and electronic medical record systems).

  • Possess ability to troubleshoot and triage to clinical engineering (BioMed) or clinical information systems (CIS) hardware, software and equipment issues related to TeleICU systems in the COR or patient rooms that TeleICU supports.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize activities and multitask while still manning monitors, answering phones, and communicating with staff and physicians.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Monitor Tech Certification.

  • Basic Knowedge of medical terminology.

  • Previous experience using electronic medical records.

  • Familiarity/Usage of eCareManager; Philips Monitors, Electronic Medical Record system (EMR).
