Swedish Health Services Nursing Technician II in Seattle, Washington
Swedish Medical Center is looking for Nursing Technician II (Per Diem, Variable Shift) to work in Clinical Education Department at Swedish Shared Services in Seattle, WA.
This position is open to a current nursing student for the purpose of giving patient care under the direction and supervision of an assigned Registered Nurse.
In this position you will:
Work under supervision of the RN to provide care and service to patients and their families. Receive direction from the RN for delegation of tasks.Adheres to emergency policies and procedures associated with patient care.
Transport patients as directed.
Appropriately communicate and document all daily activities and care provided to patient. Communicates and documents unusual and complex issues and changes in patient condition in a timely manner. Communicate and document such actions accurately and legibly.
Provide patient care as directed by team RN and within scope of practice. Duties performed may include, but are not limited to: making and changing beds, assisting with ADL’s, vital signs, urinary catheter care and removal, Intake & Output’s, ambulation assistance, assisting patients to the bathroom, assisting patients with using a bedpan, assisting with pericare, assisting the patient with feeding, and performing chemstrip functions.
Perform courtesy patient rounds with frequency as delegated by the RN.
Answer the unit telephone and patient call system in a timely fashion.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Current enrollment in and satisfactory completion of all but the last year (3 quarters/2 semesters) of a Washington State Nursing Commission approved and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Nursing program education and practice in the scope of care for the patient population on the unit of hire (i.e. pediatrics, med/surg, OB, etc.) The nursing technician will provide SMC written documentation by their nursing program of the specific nursing functions/tasks they are able to perform.
Continued enrollment in a Washington State Nursing Commission approved nursing program and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). This enrollment must be maintained throughout employment as a Nursing Technician. This enrollment includes periods of scheduled vacation and holiday time. Official enrollment does not include any of the following: leave of absence from a nursing program; withdrawal (temporary or permanent) from a nursing program; enrollment in prerequisite course study or courses offered through the department of nursing or allied health programs with no current official enrollment into an approved nursing program; and students awaiting re-enrollment into a nursing program.
Current Nursing Technician registration. Must agree to maintain registration (including renewals) throughout nursing technician employment at SMC. Registration and employment as a nursing technician is discontinued 30 days after graduation from the approved nursing program, unless a 30-day extension has been granted from the nursing commission.
The student must be in “good standing” with the nursing program. The nursing program must validate this to SMC within two weeks of the completion of the school term (quarter/semester). The nursing technician must provide prior approval to their nursing program for release of this information.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
