Swedish Health Services Patient Financial and Scheduling Specialist - Pain Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish is looking for a Patient Financial and Scheduling Specialist (1.0 FTE, Days) to work in Pain Services Department at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Patient Financial and Scheduling Specialist is a member of a multi-disciplinary team that coordinates the financial and scheduling of patients seeking care for the management of their pain. Responsible for appointment and surgical scheduling, insurance authorization. Selects and reserves specific equipment for the case scheduled, maintains positive and professional customer relations and seeks client feedback

In this position you will:

  • Schedule patients for office visits and surgical procedures. Coordinate scheduling with other departments for various procedures or physician, therapy evaluations. Prepare copy of the daily patient/practitioner schedule. Contact patients about reminders or changes to their appointments.

  • Arrange for appropriate equipment/tools for the scheduled case. Follow guidelines for room bookings and specialty preference. Communicates all sensitive case/physician scheduling to the supervisor or manager.

  • Arrange appointments for pre-admission visits or telephone interviews. Gather information regarding need for language interpreters for cases requiring assistance with language or sign, in coordination with the pre-admission center.

  • Confirm patient insurance information including eligibility and coverage limitations and completing authorization and pre-certification of services provided. Make financial arrangements and secure payment for services rendered, including collecting of co-pays and charge entry.

  • Assist all patients requesting financial assistance through financial aide programs, processing all necessary paperwork, and in addition, assist patients in determining alternate sources of coverage for hospital stays as well as payments arrangements for private pay accounts.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year patient registration, financial counseling or insurance company experience.

  • Must demonstrate competency to safely and accurately operate general office equipment including copiers, facsimile machines, multi-line telephones, computers and printers

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Office and the Excel programs.

  • 2 years experience in a medical inpatient or outpatient admitting setting
