Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Patient Services Coordinator II (MA C) (1.0 FTE/ 40 hours per week, Day Shift) to work in Kidney Acquisitions at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.
The Patient Service Coordinator II licensed provides support and clinic coordination of multiple patient care services, exercising independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of clerical duties. Responsibilities include: scheduling of new patients, follow-up clinic appointments, subsequent treatments, and requested diagnostic tests, acquiring of insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations, preparing and maintaining the patient's medical record, reconciling billing issues, answering multiple phone lines and triaging phone calls. Excellent communication and problem solving skills around patient care and clinic matters are vital. Exceptional compassion, sensitivity, and emotional stability are necessary. As a member of the physician practice team, this position acts as a professional liaison with patients, families, and other departments.
This position also functions as a key member of the clinical care team during clinic hours in the role of medical assistant by rooming patients, taking vital signs including patient weights, documenting these in Epic, drawing blood (phlebotomy), retrieving and reviewing patients' medication lists, assisting in minor office procedures, and by monitoring and improving overall patient flow in the clinic. This individual performs responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner, demonstrating all service excellence commitments. This individual will partner in the orientation and training of new staff. These responsibilities are often carried out simultaneously with frequent interruption. In addition, this job may include other special project assignments as directed. All duties accomplished with an exceptional customer service approach (AIDET Level II) to optimize the patient's experience in the Swedish system.
In this position you will:
Greets and prepares patients for the practitioner. Obtains and records vital signs and other appropriate information, such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problem.
Schedules multiple, sequential procedures and diagnostic tests as directed by the physician.
When scheduling appointments, coordinates clinic schedule to optimize provider and care team availability on multiple campuses.
May draw blood specimens, label, and prepare specimens for processing. May assist in diagnostic tests and clinical procedures to appropriate level of training as established in procedures.
Obtains non-invasive body fluid specimens.
Under the supervision of the practitioner, informs patient of lab results, calls in prescriptions to pharmacies, and returns practitioners phone messages. Documents all interactions in the patient’s medical record.
Uses SMC and Transplant Program computer systems efficiently and effectively. Is able to learn new computer applications as they evolve.
Schedules outside clinic appointments, diagnostic tests, non-invasive procedures, and surgical procedures. Coordinates with other departments involved in patient appointments and care, such as transportation and interpreter services.
Contacts patients regarding appointments or changes in appointments, as needed. May perform discharge follow-up phone calls, as necessary.

Required qualification for this position include:
Graduate of certified medical assistant program
1 year of medical assistant experience in a healthcare setting (i.e. physician’s office, scheduler, etc.).
Washington State Medical Assistant Certified or Medical Assistant Interim certification required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate Degree or equivalent from a college or technical school
Experienced in obtaining insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations
Experience with Epic.
