Swedish Health Services Regional Director, Surgical Services in Seattle, Washington

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Regional Chief Nursing Officer, the Regional Director, Surgical Services has responsibility for the operation of the Professional Nursing Practice within Surgical Services. The Regional Director is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of associated business lines for the Surgical Services vertical. In this capacity, the Regional Director carries responsibility for assisting in development and integration of the Surgical Services strategic plan with operations. The Regional Director will exercise management responsibility over the acute care vertical, ensuring efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, the public and staff. This will either be done directly, or through delegation of responsibility to the management staff. The Regional Director provides direct or indirect oversight of their day-to-day operations of the functional areas and rotates as Administrator on Call.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Regional Director, Surgical Services will have the following accountabilities:

  • Creates a work environment that facilitates and encourages involvement of the staff in critical thinking to enact professional nursing practice.

  • Communicates patient care standards as established by accreditation, regulatory and quality agencies.

  • Ensures compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing regulations, state and federal regulatory agency standards, federal labor standards and policies of the organization.

  • Adheres to professional association standards of nursing practice.

  • Ensures that written organizational clinical policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence-based practice.

  • Develops and manages an annual operating budget and long-term capital expenditure plan.

  • Uses business models for health care organizations and applies fundamental concepts of economics.

  • Interprets financial statements.

  • Manages financial resources.

  • Builds collaborative relationships.

  • Uses shared decision making to accomplish the organization’s primary goal which is service to patients, families and the community.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required experience/education for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Management of Health Administration.

  • 5 years of experience in operational leadership in surgical services and/or interventional services.

  • 5 years of progressive management experience in a complex, multi-site health system.

  • Active and current Washington registered nurse license.

  • Demonstrated progressive leadership and expertise in communication across disciplines, participative change management, managing group dynamics and managing performance improvement processes.

  • In depth current working knowledge of clinical practice and processes.
