Swedish Health Services REMOTE Business Office Credit Balance Analyst - Billing Office in Seattle, Washington

Where you work matters! Swedish Medical Center is looking Business Office Credit Balance Analyst (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) in our Billing Office at Metropolitan Park East in Seattle, Washington.

SCHEDULE: FULLY REMOTE. This schedule is flexible, working between the hours of 6:30a-5:30p PST, Monday- Friday.

Conducts thorough review of patients' accounts with credit balances. Process credit balances for insurance or self-pay refunds per Business Office policy and guidelines. Apply self-pay credit balances to other open guarantor accounts as needed. Responsible for transferring of incorrectly posted payments, to appropriate accounts. Submits requests to insurances to reprocess late charge credit claims as necessary. Reviews and processes requests received from payers and patients for refunds and/or overpayments. Refers accounts with a credit balance due to regulatory payer to the appropriate WQ for regulatory specialist to review. Remains up-to-date on payer and billing contracts, including Medicare, Medicaid, L&I and HMO/PPO.

In this position you will:

  • Receive, respond to and resolve inquiries concerning credit balances and insurance take backs.

  • Answer and resolve incoming phone calls regarding credit balances in a polite manner.

  • Integrate new and changing legal requirements into current procedures in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Insure refund requests and documentation are accurate and prepared weekly.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining an up-to-date policy and procedure manual to properly guide billing staff; review and improve work procedures and performance so that the most productive and efficient methods are being used.

  • Work collaboratively with other Revenue Cycle functions to improve processes.

  • Mentor and coach other billing staff; act in a super user capacity when implementing new billing processes or technology.

  • Interact with third party organizations related to credit balances.

  • Prioritize and organize workload based on department guidelines.

  • Review credit balances for trends and root causes. Assist with resolving specific issues as well as improving process to eliminate errors from occurring.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications this position include:

  • Accounting training in an accredited school or equivalent on-the-job training in an accounting or cash applications role.

  • 1 year Experience in hospital insurance billing office, accounting, accounts receivable or bookkeeping.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Finance, Business Management or Accounting.

  • A strong technical background including experience with automated clinical information systems preferred; proficient in working with Epic.
