Swedish Health Services Respiratory Care Practitioner - Respiratory Therapy in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is calling for a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Per Diem, Variable Shift) to work in Respiratory Therapy at Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner will set up and operate various type of respiratory care equipment to be used in the

diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness.

In this position you will:

• Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patient.

• Completes required Epic documentation, billing, scheduling and scanning as applicable.

• Gives clear, informative report to relief personnel.

• Adheres to departmental standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.

• Initiates, operates, monitors mechanical and non-invasive ventilation. Continually assess patient's respiratory function and ability to wean from mechanical ventilation.

• Assesses patients for appropriateness of therapy utilizing quality management guidelines and protocols. Contacts managing LIP and documents on flowsheet, progress note, and plan of care suggestions for therapy as indicated.

• Performs LIP prescribed treatments outlined in the scope of services in departmental structure standards.

• Collaborates with medical and nursing staff for ongoing patient management.

• Performs basic troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment and notifies manager/ coordinator/biomed of possible equipment repairs.

• Assures safe and efficient inpatient transport.

• Reviews respiratory orders of assigned workload. Assures assigned therapy has current and accurate LIP order.

• Maintains department in a clean, neat and orderly condition.

• Performs as a preceptor when assigned.

• Adheres to infection control standards for routine equipment change schedules; ventilation circuits, inline suction catheter, small volume nebulizers and filters. Also, follows hospital standards with regard to hand hygiene.

• Responsible for maintaining all required certifications prior to expiration per applicable job code and or campus location per departmental structure standards; i.e. ACLS, PALS, NRP, BCLS, Neonatal Pediatric Transport certification, and license for LRCP.

• Follows departmental standard of reviewing departmental/organizational email.

• Attends all Department meetings and education unless excused by manager.

• NEONATAL/PERINATAL/PEDIATRICS: If incumbent works in a Neonatal, Pediatrics, or Perinatal area, assess the following competencies:

• Provides effective newborn resuscitation in the delivery room and transport to the NICU.

• Performs routine safety checks of all internal/external transport equipment, Labor & Delivery room portable resuscitation equipment, INO equipment (FHC Only), emergency O2 storage, and emergency respiratory drawers.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications this position include:

Education:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory care program.

  • Must have completed Respiratory Care’s department orientation.

License/Certification:

• Must be a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner with the Washington State Department of Health under Chapter 18.89 RCW.

• Must be registry eligible with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials are preferred.

• New graduates qualify for temporary practice if they have complied with the Washington State Department of Health WAC 246-928-530.

• Active member of the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) is preferred.
