Swedish Health Services Scheduler - Linguistic Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Scheduler Linguistic Services (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Linguistic Services at Swedish Shared Services in Seattle, WA.

Responsible for daily scheduling duties and responsibilities using a multi-line phone system and computerized database. Responds to SMC requests for interpreters, screens requests for service eligibility, reviews daily unassigned requests and assigns to appropriate service provider, assists with identification of service gaps and provides information to customers regarding structure and service level of Linguistic Services, and information on procedures for requesting interpreter services and canceling service requests. Provides feedback and input regarding the software parameters; reviews periodically the efficiency and effectiveness of the assignment process, procedures, and guidelines; recommends changes in the computerized and manual systems to improve system efficiency and effectiveness as needed.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Understand and has a working knowledge of the Interpreter Services contract, particularly in terms of the scheduling functions. Evaluate and assess scheduling functions to ensure contractual and program goals are met or exceeded.

  • Problem solve difficult situations; receive and handle interpreter services and scheduling complaints or refers to appropriate person.

  • Provide assistance in reviewing the parameters of the contract and reviews periodically for efficiency; recommend changes in the computerized and manual systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with vendors and service providers in problem solving.

  • Coordinate and assist with compiling statistical data on utilization of interpreter services by language, cost, and SMC department. Analyze patterns of utilization to identify and implement cost containment opportunities. Prepare data for presentations and reports upon requests.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years experience as a scheduler/dispatcher or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds showing sensitivity to cultural differences and concerns.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate’s degree in Social services, business, or related field

  • Experience in a social service or medical environment; preferably related to providing interpreter services to the public or working with limited English speaking population

  • Experience with contracts
