Swedish Medical Center Senior Quality Program Manager - Quality And Patient Safety in Seattle, Washington


  • Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Senior Quality Program Manager (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Quality And Patient Safety at Swedish First Hill located in Seattle, WA. The Senior Quality Program Manager (QPM) facilitates quality improvement programs to standardize care delivery, increase reliability, promote high value care and support an effective quality management system at Swedish. Under the direction of Quality Division leadership and in collaboration with operational and clinical leadership, the Senior QPM leads the design, implementation, and sustainment of prioritized quality goals by managing complex, cross-functional quality programs at a campus or health system level. In this position you will:

  • Facilitates the selection of annual, priority-driven improvement projects, pathways and/or other activities that focus on key operational processes and services offered

  • Reviews evidence, research, available data, and coordinates risk and opportunity assessments that serve as the rationale for project selection and focus

  • Partners with IS, Best Practice, Clinical Transformation, analytics, patient engagement, patient safety, risk management and other teams to coordinate improvements in education, workflow, Epic, and other areas identified by project teams

  • Independently provides consultation to leaders, managers, and caregivers in establishing quality goals, identifying barriers, developing outcomes-oriented work plans, implementing changes, analyzing results, documenting measurable progress and graphically displaying information

  • Uses expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, IHI’s Model for Improvement, change- and project management and other quality methodologies when performing process improvement and consulting with and directing leaders, managers and caregivers

  • Leads the design, creation, validation, analysis, and communication of clinical quality data as it relates to organizational priorities in partnership with analytics and other relevant teams

  • Manages campus- and/or system-level internal audit program, trains and supports internal auditors, and oversees the effective implementation of sustainable corrective and preventative actions

  • Assures the evaluation of corrective actions and validates sustained corrections based upon a plan

  • Recommends topic areas and designs tools for the completion of internal audits


REQUIRED qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Lab Technologist, Physical Therapy, Pharmacist, RHIA or other clinical health care degree is preferred

  • 5 years experience in Healthcare required

  • Experience interpreting regulatory standards, clinical guidelines, national quality metrics, and health services research

  • Expert work experience in quality management, patient safety, systems thinking, change management

  • Ability to translate gaps in measured performance into recommended changes in clinical and operational process workflows

  • Proven success in large scale Project Management including ability to improve work processes

  • Demonstrated ability to to utilize statistical process control and/or QI methods to analyze data

  • Expert knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio

  • Travel approximately <20%

REQUIRED License and Certifications for this position include:

  • Licensure as applicable to educational background

  • CPHQ, PMP, Lean, Six Sigma, or other related process improvement or quality training required

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license is required

  • Possession of the minimum (or greater) auto insurance coverage as mandated by the state of Washington also required

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Lab Technologist, Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, RHIA or other clinical healthcare education is preferred

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare administration, public health, nursing, business or related subject preferred

  • Electronic Health Record preferred

  • ISO 9001 preferred
