Swedish Medical Group is looking for a SpeechLanguage Pathologist (0.2 FTE, Days) in Neurology Clinic at Swedish CherryHill in Seattle, WA.

The Speech Pathologist is

responsible for assessing, treating, and helping to prevent disorders related

to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.

In this position you will:

  • Work in a multidisciplinary ALS clinicand assist with the evaluation and treatment of patients with this disease in ateam-based care model.

  • Assist in evaluating and treatingpatients with progressive swallowing dysfunction in compensatory swallowingtechniques and dietary changes to avoid aspiration.

  • Perform assessments includingstandardized tests to analyze the extent of the impairments.

  • Develop individualized care plans,tailored to each patient’s needs.

  • Select augmentative or alternativecommunication methods, including automated devices and sign language, and teachtheir use to individuals with little or no speech capability.

  • Teach patients how to make sounds,improve their voices, or increase their oral or written language skills tocommunicate more effectively.

  • Teach patients how to strengthen musclesor use compensatory strategies to swallow without chocking or inhaling food orliquid.

  • Keep records on the initial evaluation,treatment, and progress of patients.

  • Counsel patients and their familiesconcerning communication disorders and how to cope with the stress andmisunderstanding that often accompany them.

  • Work with family members to recognizeand change behavior patterns that impede communication and treatment and showthem communication-enhancing techniques to use at home.

  • Follows the inpatient speech pathologyjob description while providing inpatient care.

  • Promote the mission of Swedishexternally in a positive way. Function as an ambassador for Swedish wheninterfacing with anyone outside the organization.

  • Demonstrate the Swedish values includingpatient-centered care and service; respect, caring and compassion; teamwork andpartnership; continuous learning and improvement; and leadership at all times.

  • Consistent use of AIDET system forexcellent service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduateof an accredited program of speech/language pathology culminating in a minimumof a Master’s Degree.

  • Possessesa valid Washington state speech-language pathology license

  • CPRcertified

  • Previous speech pathologist experience preferred
