Swedish Medical Center Supervisor - Business Office Cash Control in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Supervisor - Business Office Cash Control to work in Corporate Billing at Metropolitan Park East in Seattle, WA .

The Supervisor Business Office Cash Control will oversee supervision and coordination of the Swedish Health Services (SHS) Cash Control and Credit Balance staff. Supervises the preparation, editing and submission of accurate and timely insurance claims (electronic and manual) to commercial and regulatory payers. Claims process includes reconciling claim runs, creating electronic claim files, and resolving errors. Supervises cash collection, refunds and adjustment processes to ensure accuracy of patient account balances. Responsible for the oversight of proper handling of credit balances. Responsible to insure timely posting of all payments. Conduct research / analyze, and assist with problem solving and solutions.

In this position you will:

  • Coach and Mentor new staff, perform evaluations, and monthly one on ones

  • Conducts regular reviews of the Cash and Credit Balance cycle to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Identifies and monitors trends, develops standards and improved processes

  • Conduct benchmark and competitive analysis or surveys, to build quality and efficiency in the Cash Control and Credit Balance functions.

  • Prepares reports for management.

  • Interact with internal and external contacts, including all levels of staff and management throughout Swedish, and externally with patients and families, insurance companies, physicians and their staff, auditors, and vendors.

  • Stay informed of new and/or changing regulations.

  • May be required to participate in internal and external audits, review audit findings and implements changes as required.

  • Participate in the design of systems to support the business and operational needs of SHS.

  • Collect and document business requirements, and assists in the development of new workflows, policies and procedures, and documentation for the department.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Medical terminology and medical coding training in an accredited school or equivalent on-the-job training in a billing role

  • 2 years’ experience in Hospital Cash Control and Credit Balance resolution

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding classification systems, familiar with medical terminology and its applications, insurance rules and regulations

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations

  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communications

  • Problem solving in a variety of settings

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and to operationalize that learning

  • Ability to deal effectively with constant changes and be in a change agent

  • Ability to deal effectively with difficult people and/or difficult situations

  • Ability to willingly accept responsibility and/or share responsibility

  • Ability to set priorities and use good judgment for self

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Management or healthcare administration

  • Strong technical background including experience with automated systems

  • Proficient in working with Epic

  • Knowledge of the revenue cycle and/or regulatory requirements

  • Supervisory experience
