Swedish Medical Center Supervisor Central Services - Swedish Orthopedic Institute in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Supervisor of Perioperative Central Services for the Orthopedic Surgical Sterile Processing Department at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Supervisor for Perioperative Central Services is responsible for performing a variety of duties associated with the efficient operation of Central Services in order to ensure high quality product delivery and efficient service to customers. Central Services includes all sterile processing activities and customers but are not limited to, Surgical Services, Labor and Delivery, GI, Interventional Services, hospital clinics, and outside vendors.

In this position you will:

  • Supervise all processes and staff related to the decontamination, assembly and sterilization of instrumentation, case cart assembly and acts as a resource in all areas of expertise for departmental staff

  • Develop and perform audits of performance measures and metrics for those supervised and from that develops and implements PI measures to achieve performance goals

  • Design, implement and conduct routine staff performance audits as it relates to areas of supervision

  • Responsible for all staffing assignments, employee evaluations and Level I disciplinary action

  • Administer and coordinate staff training programs to ensure participation and demonstration of competency

  • Assist in development, review and update of departmental policies and procedures

  • Assure the complete, accurate, and on-time availability of sterile instrumentation, supplies and or equipment for future cases (Pre-planning)

  • Provide data and analytics to support manager approval for purchase requests of supplies and equipment

  • Responsible to provide data to manager for needed reports


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Certified with either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing (CBSPD)

  • At least 4 years recent experience in sterile processing or surgical services

  • At least two years experience in a leadership role

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in healthcare or business

  • Successful completion of a Central Service technician course

  • Prior experience wording with instrument tracking systems and materials ordering systems

  • SPD supervisory management certification, CHL (Certification in Health Care Leadership, CSPDS (Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution Services)
